Life… Gets In The Way… Sometimes.

And…… I haven’t figured out how to fix it yet!  LOL!

It’s been one of those weeks.  The husband did NOT have a good week.  Long story short.  He’s been disabled since Feb of this year – back injury.  He just had his 3rd & final epidural and well, he’s worse.  Eh, enough of that.  Just wanted you to know why I haven’t had much time to participate in my class as well as post here.

I finally made my ink swatches!!!  But… I need a bigger ring.

So today was the last day of the KICKSTART class.  I really enjoyed it and I’m a bit sad that it’s over, however I learned a great deal and I’m looking forward to putting what I learned to use.  I’m also looking forward to the next class!

One of the things I have taken away from the class is to challenge myself.  That being said I have decided to participate in some of the challenges available and to think outside the box.  At this point, I’m not sure what my style is.  I’ve been a scrapbooker… and even as a scrapbooker, I don’t have a style.  I’ll try pretty much anything (and oh does that sound BAD.. teehee).  So, we’ll just have to see where it all takes me.

I’ve decided to enter another Retro Sketches challenge.  Here is Sketch #31.

I’ve also added to the challenge a bit.  I challenged myself to use ONLY the scraps I currently had on my scrap table.

And this is my creation…

More Challenges…

Day 8 of the KICK START class!  We continued our discussion on Challenges and how we can challenge ourselves.  So, today… I did just that. I looked around at various card challenges and entered a couple cards that I had made during KICK START.  Then, I found another challenge that I would have to make a card in order to enter… so, I did!

Challenges… Be Not Afraid!

Day 7 of my KICK START class and I have to say.  I’m LOVIN’ it!  I’m learning so much and quite honestly… finding inspiration has been the biggest “duh” kind of moment for me.  Up until this point, I’ve struggled tremendously with inspiration.  I’m hoping I’ve turned over a new leaf!

Today’s class talked about challenging yourself.  I did just that tonight.  I challenged myself to use techniques I had not used before.  To use products I’d not used before.  And in doing so, I was able to create not one, but TWO cards in a short amount of time.  Oh… and one heck of a mess on my scrap table!  Whew!  LOL!

Isn’t that bird the cutest little bird???  I love it!  Of course it’s a  Unity Stamp Company stamp!!!  Some of the “new for me” techniques in this card was masking the clouds and inking around them.  Also, the bird is colored in Copics… yeah, I know, I need some work here.  I’ve not really used my Copics since my hubby bought them for me for my anniversary.  Eh, I’ll get there.  I do like this card though.  It makes me smile.  🙂  See the bottom of post for additional supplies.

This card was inspired by my daughter, a musician.  Background stamp is a Unity Stamp Co stamp and the “Just a note” stamp is a really old Stampin’ Up stamp.  The “new for me” technique is using Glimmer Mist and yes… I got a little TOO happy with it! Oh well, live and learn.  Anyway, I hope you’ve enjoyed my cards as much as I’ve enjoyed making them.  Now… I’ve got a mess to clean up!  🙂

Let’s Try This Again!…

So after the glitter explosion and epic failure of the fall card I had in mind yesterday, I switched it up a bit and back to the drawing board I went!

Fall is my favorite time of year.  After a long HOT summer, the crisp cool air is very  welcome.  I also love the colors of fall and living in the Hudson Valley area, there isn’t much better. It amazes me that I’ve already seen trees starting to change.   WOW!  Anyway, that is the inspiration for this next card… The colors of the season.

I started with white card stock and a  Unity Stamp Company background stamp. I used a   Versamark Watermark Stamp Pad and Ranger’s Super Fine Detail Embossing Powder – Clear, followed by  a few Tim Holtz Distress Inks: Aged Mahogany, Wild Honey & Vintage Photo to create the background, which I spritzed with a little water.
The sentiment (Unity Stamp Co) was stamped on Vellum using STAZON Ink in Timber Brown.
The adorable leaves (Unity Stamp Co) were stamped using the Tim Holtz Distress Inks noted above with the Ranger’s Super Fine Detail Embossing Powder – Clear on Gina K Designs Pure Luxury Heavy Base Weight Card Stock in Kraft (used as the base of the card as well).

Well, that’s all for today.  I hope you’ve enjoyed the card!  Have a Great Night!

Everywhere you go…

Yes, that’s right… it’s everywhere you go.

INSPIRATION

Day 6 of the KICKSTART Online Card Class and we are talking about inspiration and all the different places you can find it.  We’ve also been talking a lot about shopping… shopping from your own stash and shopping smart.  Inspiration can also be found while shopping.  So, I decided I would go out shopping today and find a little inspiration.

Epic Fail!

I started the journey at one of the big box stores, thinking I would find all kinds of inspiration!  I wasn’t there to REALLY shop.  I was just shopping for inspiration.  Uh… instead I found some really great Washi tape and oh… some really great embossing folders.  :/

Then I decided to check out the OTHER big box store in my area – sure I would find some inspiration there.  Yeah right.  You guessed it.  Found some really good stuff there.  Some Rangers Perfect Pearls, a cute little cloud punch and several Hampton Art‘s stamps on clearance!

I must have known I was going to fail at the “window shopping” for inspiration because I made sure I had my coupons.  LOL!

So, I came home and decided to do a little more “window shopping”.  I started out at Simon Says Stamp and well, let’s just say I was no more successful there than I was at those big box stores.  *sigh*  Let’s just face facts… I suck at this!

So, I sat down at my craft table as I did have a few ideas I wanted to try out.  I decided to pull out my Martha Stewart glitter and had these grand visions of making a fall card.  I didn’t have any of the Be Creative Sheets, so I decided that I would improvise and hope that it worked.  I took out my Xyron and ran some cardstock through it.  I unpeeled one piece, covered it with glitter, burnished it and hoped that I could stamp on top of it.  Nope!

Another Epic Fail!

I think several things went wrong.

  • Not sure if the Xyron was really holding the glitter like the Sookwang would.
  • I think the MS Glitter was perhaps a little too coarse
  • For whatever reason, unbeknownst to me… it didn’t like any of my ink, either that or the glitter was just too dark.  *shrug*
  • Oh and glitter, EVERYWHERE!

Ok… next idea.  Hmm… inspiration.  Found it, right here:

I really like this color palette.  Well, most of it.  I’m not that crazy about the royal blue though.  So I sat back down at my craft table and FINALLY.  Finally I was inspired enough to make it happen.

Thankful…..

There are a lot of things I’m thankful for these days…. to many to mention!

I made this card for one of the homework assignments for my KICKSTART class.  It was a lot of fun to make. Sorry about the crappy photo.  That’s on my list of “things I need to get better at”.  LOL!

Took 2 years, but now 2 for 2!!!

Yep… it’s me again!  I do have to say I’m really enjoying the KICKSTART classes!!!  I’ve learned so much!  One of things we’ve been discussing is organization, so I thought I would share with you the way I’ve been organizing my stamps.  I have a ton of stamps, but I found I didn’t use them because they weren’t organized and I could never find what I was looking for.  Just a couple of weeks ago, in fact, I spent many days organizing them in a system that worked for me.

I purchased some colorful binder boxes from Unikeep in Mango, Kiwi & Ocean… love them!

So then I purchased some EZ Mount Storage Panels to put in each of the binder boxes.  I then stamped all my stamps on 4X6 index cards, including the name of the stamp & binder/location it would be stored in.

Here are some of my awesome Unity Stamp Company stamps on the storage panels.

Anyway, that’s how I’m storing my stamps these days and… it works for me!  I can fit 4 pages of red rubber stamps or 7 pages of clear stamps in each binder.  I hope someone finds this useful!

And so it begins…

Well, I’ve had this blog for about 2 years, but today is my very first entry. <gasp>  My intentions were good, but there just never seems to be enough time.  So why now?  Well, I’ve decided to participate in …

I do have to say that I’m enjoying the KICKSTART class!  Here is my first creation from the class, in which I’m using some techniques that either I haven’t used before or I haven’t used often.

One of the “new for me” techniques is using Ranger’s Perfect Pearls which I’ve used on the flowers in blush.  Not so sure if you can see the pearlescent effect or not, but here is a close up.

Well, that’s all for now folks!  Not bad for my first post huh?  Only took me 2 years to get here!
